The U.S. is already in a dire spot, losing a game that they should have won. Canada just keeps on rolling, giving up few very good scoring opportunities, and picking apart their opposition defense.

The young guns team is intriguing. Their speed and top heavy offense will be a handful for any team. Their weakness will be their inexperience in the defensive zone. They have a plethora of blue chip defenders, but the experience factor is just due to their youthful age. The Finns are the darkhorse.

Hey Garf,

Can I get your thoughts on Matthews being on North America's top line over Eichel.

Thanks

Is that a rhetorical question?

maybe Eichel should reach out to Ryan Lochte ... on how to deal with foreign enviroments... or perhaps teammate Evander Kane.

when ever I read ANYTHING that comments on young American hockey players being treated poorly or having the ice "tilted" against them... you know when they play in such terrible surroundings like Boston College or Yale or Havard....

it always make me want to think about how hockey players who grew up in locations like northern Minnesota or northern Ontario (and no I don't mean Barrie) or in Manitoba or rural Quebec... what they must think of how they were treated when they entered another team's barn.

tell JackE to go to a high school game in Minnesota or perhaps a junior game in Sault Ste Marie or North Bay or Chicoutimi.

you have to find a different way to say it then....

perhaps - "Eichel's obvious skill and scoring are needed on the wing MUCH more acutely then at center... where an obviously weaker but still good enough option exists".

its all Eichel all the time... except when its Vesey.

Nylander can not play in the AHL this season since he played Ontario Junior Hockey. He can only play in the OHL or NHL.

Please stop with the McDavid/Eichel and Matthews/Laine comparisons. Nobody cares. Buffalo loves Eichel. Edm loves MCDavid.
That fact is McDavid was the consensus #1 pick. It is also known, had Matthews been born two weeks earlier, he, not Eichel would have gone #2 to Buf

Have to agree with this...then the leafs would have laine and marner would be the future 1c with Kadri filling in until mm was ready to play on the big club, but, have to say it worked out better for all involved with am being born that 2 weeks later

I follow hockey of all types, from High School to NHL an even KHL games. I'm a little more hockey obsessed then the average American for sure and I have to argue this. The only places I saw people putting Matthews over Eichel in the " same draft" scenario was fan message boards and a couple lesser known bloggers who were looking for attention and to stir up some hits. The mainstream media have all either said nothing or in the case of McKenzie said flat out Eichel would have still been 2nd.

Via Bob McKenzie twitter:
If Matthews was two days older, he'd have been 2015 eligible, would've gone 3rd overall to ARI after McDavid/Eichel: https://t.co/pEW6xzABUN

That said I think Matthews is gonna be a hell of a player and I really look forward to him and Eichel going at it for years to come. But as a Sabre fan I am glad we got Eichel and wouldn't change that outcome at all. Unless of course it meant getting McDavid cause regardless of what other Sabers fans might say and think, he is definitely a superior player.

I have a confession to make. I was managing Ruth's Chris Steakhouse last season when the Sabres were in town for a Sat. night event...

Long story short, I only had enough poison on me for one steak so I chose Eichel's. It wasn't really a tough decision. I just thought his curly red Ronald McDonald hair looked so ridiculous that if anyone deserved the "stomach flu" it was him.

I'm sorry guys, I'm ashamed of my actions, but it does feel good to finally come clean about it.
